Westfall Co-operative Renovations Starting time Monday, March 28, 2022

The Westfall Co-operative Library will soon undergo renovation as part of the San Antonio Public Library's fiscal year 2022 deferred maintenance programme. The total upkeep for the projection is $246,000.
Outcomes for the scope of this construction projection include:
- Flooring replacement throughout the Library
- Renovated restrooms
- New automated front door
- Interior & exterior painting
- Lighting improvements
- Bottle-fill up drinking fountain
Due to the construction, Westfall Branch Library will be closed beginning Monday, March 28, 2022. The closure is expected to last v weeks or until the work is complete.
During the closure, reserved Library materials will be bachelor for pickup at the nearby Granados Adult & Senior Center, 500 Freiling, San Antonio, TX 78213. This interim service will begin Monday, March 28. Hours will be Monday-Friday from 1-five p.m.

History
Westfall Branch was built in 1963 from funds donated by Edward Dixon Westfall and was the first major branch built on the north side of San Antonio. Information technology served a population of 75,000 and had a chapters for a collection of xxx,000 volumes. It was a very decorated branch and at times had a circulation greater than the Principal Library downtown.
To encounter the needs of the rapidly growing North Side, the co-operative had to exist expanded twice. In 1971, Westfall was expanded from v,560 to 9,410 square feet past the builder, Emmit R. Tuggle, and in 1995, under the supervision of Reyna/McChesney Associates, it was expanded to 11,450 square feet, which included a meeting room, staff lounge and boosted work surface area. Today, the Westfall Branch has a staff of nineteen and circulates over 230,000 books annually.
The Westfall Co-operative is named after Edward Dixon Westfall, who in 1891 bequeathed his entire estate of over 1,000 acres of farmland to the San Antonio Public Library organization for the establishment or maintenance of a public library. This legacy became effective in 1940 upon the expiry of his widow, Josephine Dillon Westfall. Mr. Westfall came to the San Antonio expanse in 1846 at the age of 25. During his lifetime, he served as an Indian scout, a soldier, and a Texas Ranger. According to his journals, which he kept from 1886 to his decease in 1897, ane of his greatest loves was reading, although he had footling formal education. This love of reading he wished to pass on to future generations through his generous souvenir to the public library.
